Adolph Juner was born to Hedwig and Adolf Juner in 1921.

Adolf and Hedwig were German immigrants who eventually settled on City Island in the Bronx. Together, they opened a German bakery on the Island and lived and raised their 5 children in the one bedroom apartment above it.

All the boys were encouraged to compete in bicycle racing, and all did with varying degrees of success.

Oscar had the most noted career as he turned professional and moved away to California where he opened American Cyclery in San Francisco and raced.

Adolph was not far behind him in skill, but he remained an amature racer as he was still young and living at home when his father died. Older brother Gus had gotten married by then and Adolf's daily chores at the bakery were taken over by 18 year-old Adolph.

His responsibilities there prevented him from pursuing a professional cycling career.
